Tree of Life Viking Axe

On this Tree of Life viking axe i carved the symbol of Ygddrasil. This viking motif is known as the Tree of Life, or the World Tree. This huge and mythic tree exists in a lot of ancient beliefs and religions. In the German and Scandinavian mythology the Tree of Life is an ash tree which has a foliage covered with clouds and roots that reach the underworld.

Yggdrasil ( ᛦᚵᛑᚱᛆᛋᛁᛚ ), the Viking Tree of Life is a saint ash tree which’s trunk is the middle of the world. All the other parts of the cosmos is around it. It’s inconceivably enormous branches and roots are holding and bounding the world’s different parts together.

The Tree of Life is a universal symbol. It means creation and consciousness. The growing of the tree is the symbol of the universe and its evolution. The tree represents the meeting of the human and divine wisdom and the endless progression. More info about Yggdrasil.

In the Viking folklore Yggdrasil is an ash tree, so i made the handles of these axes from ash wood. Ash is a really strong but elastic hardwood. It is used for making bows, tool handles and other qualitiative items. An ash tree that kept dry can even last for 500 years. The handles got absorbing tree oil protection too.

These axe’s head are made of steel like the traditional axes. The patterns on the heads aren’t just printed but milled into the metal, it is like a relief Tree of Life motif.
